Friendship Café is Rhode Island’s first and only mission driven restaurant. Named “Best Cafe with a Cause” by Rhode Island Monthly, Friendship Café does more than serve great breakfast and lunch. We’re a division of Amos House WORKS, the business arm of Amos House, which means that 100% of the proceeds go back into supporting Amos House programs and services.
Best known locally for running Rhode Island’s largest soup kitchen, Amos House is also nationally recognized for the strength of our programs. In addition to providing over 140,000 meals a year, we provide housing to 200 people each night, help more than 15,000 people in our social services office each year, and graduate 200 students each year from our Workforce Development Programs.
But the good doesn’t stop there. The Café
trains and employs graduates from the Amos Culinary Education (ACE) program, helping formerly unemployed and underemployed men and women make a fresh start in a new career. ACE students supplement their classwork with on-the-job training at the Café
as they earn national certifications and learn the skills that turn hard workers into great employees.
The Friendship Café is just one of the businesses operating under the Amos House WORKS umbrella. We also run More Than a Meal Catering
(our full-service event catering business), Amos House Builds (our home renovation business employing graduates of the Amos Carpentry Training program), and Bristol Harbor Baking Mixes
(homemade baking mixes created by women from the Mother-Child Reunification Program).
These businesses work to generate revenue for Amos House, create employment for dozens of formerly homeless men and women, and stimulate the local economy.
Where else can buying coffee and a muffin change lives?
